Choosing The Perfect Domain Name

Choosing the perfect domain name can be a long and tedious task. Some will have the luck of finding their ideal domain name within minutes and others will use their company name. However some will find that their first, second and even their tenth choice are all taken. Domain names are constantly being bought by individuals and companies to try to sell to the likes of smaller companies who rely on their domain name for traffic to their site.
Before deciding on your ideal domain, please take the following points into consideration.

Your domain name should be your company name. If this is not available, at least have your company name in there somewhere.

Your URL must not be too long, stay between 4-16 characters if possible

Search engines read hyphens as spaces so they will amplify your keywords however it is hard for people to remember and they may type the domain name without them and go to your competitors website.

Try to included a product keyword into your domain name if your company name does not have one already.

Plurals such as THE and My. If your competitor has the website www.carpetstore.com, it is not advisable to name yours thecarpetstore.com. Visitors are likely to forget the plural and go straight to your competitors website.

Which Extension should you have? .com, .org, .co.uk? An example is: If you are a company that works soley in the UK, use a .co.uk domain name. This will help your visitors gain trust knowing they are dealing with a British company and it has slight SEO benefits as well.
